Acupuncture

Yes, it is needles going into your skin, but that is not where the magic ends! Acupuncture points are chosen according to your specific diagnosis. Once the needles are in, you rest. Most patients report feeling deep relaxation & a sense of euphoria.

With over 13,000 studies & used in 60 different countries, acupuncture, now more than ever, is being understood & applied to help eliminate pain & provide a wide range of health benefits. It can be utilized as a stand alone therapy or as an adjunct to other forms of treatment.

Acupuncture is a therapy of East Asian origin dating back more than 3,500 years & remains one of the oldest, most commonly used systems of healing in the world. Recognition of acupuncture in the United States has come a long way. The World Health Organization now recognizes acupuncture as an effective tool for treating pain.

Acupuncture involves inserting extremely fine, single-use, sterile needles into the skin to help balance energy, promote healing, & prevent disease. Once the needles are inserted into the skin, biochemical responses occur releasing endorphins into the muscles, spinal cord & brain. This increases immunity, stimulates collagen, & increases the levels of the amino acid GABA to improve mood & sleep. This form of medicine treats your entire being rather than its individual parts, harnessing your existing energy (qi) to assist your body in healing itself.

Our bodies are made of energy. The needles inserted are made of stainless steel. This increases electrical conductivity when the needles wind around connective tissue, muscle, & fascia that then increase blood & oxygen circulating to the injured area. This then promotes healing in the tissue & increases blood flow. A reduction of inflammation from acupuncture can be revealed on thermal imaging, & observable changes in the brain can be read on magnetic resonance images or MRI’s.

Moxibustion & Gua sha are two powerful modalities that can be added to your acupuncture treatment.

Moxibustion

Ai Ye is an herb used to warm and stimulate acupuncture points through a process called moxibustion. It improves circulation to relieve pain, boosts energy, & can stop cold like symptoms. It helps to soothe the nervous system & is used to warm the uterus to treat those needing extra fertility support. Moxibustion can be used to assist with postpartum recovery called “Mother Warming”. Moxibustion is also used to encourage breech babies to turn.

Gua Sha

Gua sha is an ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine healing technique where we bring about a fundamental change in the skin using a tool to improve local circulation by clearing blockages that can lead to: acne, rosacea, dark circles, puffiness, wrinkles, adhesions in the muscles, fascia, & connective tissue. This creates space & movement in the underlying structures so that the skin can function better & pain & tension can be relieved. It is also a great adjunctive technique for treating respiratory conditions.
